MVB: Wildcats Drop Tri-Match to Elizabethtown, St. John Fisher.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -  The SUNY Poly men's volleyball team dropped both matches on Saturday to Elizabethtown and St. John Fisher. In the first match against Elizabethtown, the Wildcats lost 3-2 after winning the fourth set to extend the match to the final set. In the second match against St. John Fisher the Wildcats lost in straight sets, 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED: In the first match against Elizabethtown, the Wildcats got out to a great start, winning the first set 25-20. Elizabethtown would return the favor in the second and third sets, however, winning both of the sets 25-20 to take a 2-1 lead. In the fourth set, the Wildcats used a series of four different runs to win the set 25-18 and force the deciding set. In the final set, the Wildcats won the first two points before Elizabethtown won the next 4. After falling down 12-9, the Wildcats dug deep and tied the set at 12-12, but Elizabethtown was able to win the final three points to win the set 15-12, and the match 3-2.

In the second match against St. John Fisher, the Wildcats were unable to limit runs from their opponent, who won in straight sets 25-15, 25-12, and 25-13. The nationally ranked Cardinals had an impressive.406 kill percentage en route to the victory.

NOTABLE WILDCAT TRI-MATCH PERFORMANCES:

  • In the first match, Peter Gottler led the team with an impressive 17 kills, while also recording 11 digs. Jason Aubrey recorded 15 kills, while James Mion added in 15 of his own.
  • Joshua Slater had an incredible 49 assists from the setter position in the first match.
