MVB: Wildcats Sweep Old Westbury, John Jay.

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's volleyball team swept the trip-match on Sunday, beating Old Westbury 3-0 and John Jay 3-1. With the wins on Sunday, the Wildcats end the weekend 2-2 on their downstate trip and move to 7-8 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

In the first match of the day, it would be all Wildcats as they won the first and second sets 25-14, before also winning the final set 25-17. It was a clean match for the Wildcats, who only had 10 attack errors in three sets. The Wildcats saw 8 players record kills in the match, to go along with 10 service aces. Jordan Weir led the way with 9 kills and 5 digs. Aidan Snover also recorded 7 digs for the Wildcats.

In the second match, John Jay won the first set 25-21. The Wildcats had a 12-7 lead before John Jay won the next 6 points to take a 13-12 lead. After a Jordan Weir ace cut the John Jay lead to 22-21, John Jay won the final three points to win the first set. In the second set, Jordan Weir recorded 4 aces in 5 points for the Wildcats to take a 15-8 lead. They would hold onto the lead, and win the second set 25-14. In the third set, both teams exchanged leads before the Wildcats went on a 4-point run to extend their lead to 21-18. After John Jay answered with a run of their own to take a 23-22 lead, the Wildcats won the final 3 points to win the set 25-23. The final set of the game had a similar theme, with both teams being tied at 18-18, then again at 21-21. The Wildcats would win 4 of the next 5 points, however, to win the set 25-22, and the match 3-1.

Peter Gottler also had a strong second match, recording 14 kills for the Wildcats, while Jason Aubrey added in 7 kills of his own. Joshua Slater recorded 27 assists for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats will be back in action on Saturday as they head to St. John Fisher for a tri-match against Elizabethtown and St. John Fisher.
