MVB: Wildcats Split Games Against Hilbert, Trine.

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's volleyball team took on Hilbert and Trine in a tri-match on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats won the first match against Hilbert, 3-0, before dropping the second match against Trine 3-0. With the split, the Wildcats move to 5-6 on the season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

In the first match, the Wildcats controlled all three sets, with the Hawks never coming within 4 points at the end of each set. The Wildcats would win the first set 25-18, the second set 25-20, and the final set 25-19. 

Peter Gottler and James Mion led the Wildcats with 8 kills apiece in the first match, while Joshua Slater had 23 assists to lead the offense. Jason Aubrey had a team-high 7 digs, while also having 2 solo blocks and 1 block assist. 

In the second match, Trine won the first set 25-23, the second set 25-16, and the third set 25-23. The Wildcats led the first set 21-18 before Trine rattled off the next 5 points to take a 23-21 lead. In the second set, Jason Aubrey would record a kill for the Wildcats for the first point of the set, but they would trail the rest of the way to lose the second set. In the final set, the Wildcats would trail 22-19, and score the next three points to tie the game at 22-22, but Trine would win the final two out of three points to win the set 25-23.

Jason Aubrey led the Wildcats with 10 kills and also led the way with Brendan Palmer with 5 digs.

The Wildcats will be back in action on Saturday, February 17th as they head to New Paltz for a tri-match against New Paltz and Hunter.
