MVB: Wildcats Celebrate Senior Day With NECC Match Against Nichols.

UTICA, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly Wildcats faced off against the Nichols College Bison on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, they were unable to secure a victory, as the Bison won in straight sets, 3-0. Prior to the game, the Wildcats took some time to host their annual Senior Day Celebration where the four seniors; Patrick Farrell, Kohei Clark, Jacob Wicher, and Nathan Farnham were honored for their contributions to SUNY Poly men's volleyball.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Nichols got off to a strong start, taking the first set 25-20. The second set was a back-and-forth battle, but the Bison ultimately prevailed with a score of 28-26. In the final set, Nichols won again 25-20 to seal the victory.

 

The Bison offense was led by Carlos Mercado, who recorded 10 kills, and Luis Martinez, who had nine kills. Setter Nick Martin also played a key role, contributing 18 assists. Defensively, Tanner Soracco and Nicholas Basco each had four digs.

 

On the Wildcats' side, Kohei Clark had an impressive performance with 10 kills and a block, while Jason Aubrey recorded eight kills and seven digs. Setter Nathan Farnham contributed 21 assists, and Jordan Weir had three blocks.

 

Despite their efforts, the Wildcats were unable to overcome the Bison's strong offensive and defensive play. The loss drops SUNY Poly to an 8-13 record on the season with a 3-2 record in NECC play. Nichols improved to 19-16 overall and remains undefeated in conference play at 6-0.

The Wildcats will take on Endicott College on Sunday, April 2nd at 11:00 AM. The NECC matchup will take place in the Campus Center Gym and will be streamed live on the SUNY Poly Sports Network (SPSN)
