MVB: Wildcats Beat Sage and Emmanuel at Sage’s Tri-match.

ALBANY, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly men's volleyball team earned a pair of wins on Saturday in a tri-match at Russel Sage College. The Wildcats beat the Sage Gators 3-0 to earn their second NECC win of the season. In the second match, the Wildcats beat Emmanuel 3-1. SUNY Poly is now 7-11 this season with a 2-1 record in NECC play.


GAME ONE:

SUNY Poly – 3

Sage – 0

(25-26, 25-22, 25-29)

SUNY Poly swept Russell Sage College in a three-set match on Saturday afternoon at Kahl Campus Center. SUNY Poly's offense was led by Kohei Clark, who tallied 12 kills and an ace. The Wildcats hit .308 in the match to out-duel the Gators who hit -.062 with just 10 kills as a team. The Wildcats also had seven aces in the match and five total blocks. The win was the Wildcat's second NECC win of the season.

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Kohei Clark led all players with 12 kills on 20 swings. He also had an ace and a pair of digs.
  • James Mion hit a match-high .889 with eight kills on nine swings. He also had three aces, a solo block, and a block assist.
  • Jason Aubrey had eight kills, a pair of aces, three digs, and a pair of block assists.
  • Peter Gottler had eight kills on 17 swings with an ace and three digs.
  • Nathan Farnham had 35 assists, a game-high nine digs, and a pair of kills.
  • Elijah Tortorici had a team-high six kills for Sage. He also had a solo block and a pair of block assists.

GAME TWO:

SUNY Poly - 3

Emmanuel – 1

(25-23, 18-25, 25-21, 25-15)

The second match of the afternoon for the Wildcats was a 3-1 win over non-conference opponent Emmanuel. The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead with a 25-23 win in the first set. Emmanuel won the second set 25-18 to level the match at 1-1. In the third set, the Wildcats gained an edge with a 25-21 win to take a 2-1 lead. Poly finished off the win in the fourth with a dominant 25-15 win where they hit a match-high .259 with 11 kills on 27 swings. The win was in large part due to the Wildcat's defense at the net. Poly had 12 total blocks with four solo blocks and 16 block assists.

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Jason Aubrey performed well with 15 kills on 27 attempts, finishing with a hitting percentage of .333. He also contributed a service ace and five digs for the team.
  • Nathan Farnham was the team's main setter, recording 38 assists and four digs. He also had four block assists in the match.
  • Kohei Clark had a solid game with 13 kills and a pair of service aces.
  • James Mion contributed six kills, three solo blocks, five block assists, and three digs for the Wildcats.
  • Michael Shelley was Emmanuel's top scorer with five blocks and five kills.
  • Jyles Amirault and Josh McDonald also had notable performances for Emmanuel with seven kills each.
  • Nick Sciabica had a match-high 10 digs for Emmanuel.

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will travel to Johnson, Vermont on Sunday, March 26th for a NECC matchup with the NVU Johnson Badgers. The match is scheduled for a 1:00 PM start.
