MVB: Wildcats Earn a Home Win Over FLCC.

UTICA, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's volleyball team beat Finger Lakes Community College 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats and the Lakers played four close sets. The Wildcats won the first and second 25-22 and 25-21 respectively. FLCC took the third set 25-23. Poly closed out the match in the fourth with a 25-20 win. The Wildcats are now 4-9 this season.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The two teams played an evenly fought match. SUNY Poly held a slight edge on the attack with a hitting percentage of .185 to FLCC's .100. The Wildcats also had two more aces than the Lakers. The biggest difference in the match was the Wildcat's stellar blocking. The team's 15 total blocks in the match were a season-high. Jordan Weir had a game-high nine of the Wildcats' 23 block assists in the match. It was a career-high for him and ties for the second most all-time in a single match.

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • James Mion had a great match for the Wildcats. He had 11 kills on 17 swings for an outstanding .647 hitting percentage. He also had a solo block and a pair of block assists.
  • Jason Aubrey also had 11 kills for the Wildcats. He also had four digs, a solo block, and three block assists.
  • FLCC's Jonah Grbic had a match-high 21 kills, nine digs, and a pair of block assists.
  • Libero Jacob Wicher had a team-high 12 digs for the Wildcats.

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will travel to Lasell University on Saturday, February 25th for a non-conference match. The contest is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start.
