MVB: Wildcats Drop Four Matches on Weekend Trip to Massachusetts.

BEVERLY, Mass. - The SUNY Poly men's volleyball team traveled to Massachusetts this past weekend to play four games in three days, including two NECC games and a tri-match at #1 ranked Springfield College. The Wildcats did not fare particularly well in the four matches, losing all four. The Wildcats played some very good teams very tough but were only able to come out of the weekend with two sets won.  



GAME 1: 

SUNY Poly - 0

Nichols - 3

(25-19, 25-18, 25-16)

 

The Wildcats lost the first match of the weekend on Friday 3-0 to Nichols in NECC play. Nichols hit .406 in the match and SUNY Poly hit .167. Jason Aubrey had a team-high 10 kills for the Wildcats. James Mion had a solid match, hitting .444 with four kills on nine swings. He also had a solo block and a block assist. Garrett Hassard had a solo block, a block assist, and seven kills for the Wildcats. Andrew Bertino had a team-high seven digs. 

 

GAME 2: 

SUNY Poly - 0

Springfield - 3

(25-20, 25-16, 25-20)

 

In their second match of the weekend, the Wildcats fell 3-0 to the #1 ranked team in the nation. The Wildcats blocked well as a team, racking up 14 total blocks, but were out hit, and out served by their opponent. Jason Aubrey led the Wildcats with nine kills and a pair of service aces for the Wildcats. Jordan Wier had a team-high five block assists and a kill. Nathan Farnham had 18 assists and a team-high four digs.   

 

GAME 3: 

SUNY Poly - 1

Eastern Nazarene - 3

(25-23, 25-22, 23-25, 25-23)

 

In the Wildcat's second match-up of the season against Eastern Nazarene, the Wildcats lost in four sets. All four sets were closely contested. The Lions seven ace advantage on service was precisely the difference in points between the two teams in the three sets that the Wildcats lost. SUNY Poly had the edge on the attack (.233 - .169), in total kills (50-48), and on the block (13 - 6). Matthew Russo was the team leader on the attack for the Wildcats. He had 15 kills on 31 swings. Jason Aubrey also had a solid game with 13 kills, a service ace, and five digs. Jordan Wier had eight kills, three digs, and a solo block. James Mion had six total blocks and five kills.  

 

GAME 4: 

SUNY Poly - 1

Endicott - 3

(27-29, 25-17, 25-20, 26-24)

 

In the Wildcat's final match of the weekend, the team won a tightly contested first set with NECC opponent Endicott 29-27 but lost the next three sets to lose 3-1. SUNY Poly was strong at the net again, dominating the block 19-11, but did not hit particularly well as a team. Jason Aubrey was the team leader on the attack with 10 kills on 32 swings. He also had four digs. Tavon Ward and James Mion had nearly identical stat lines for the 'Cats. They each had six kills on 14 swings, both had three block assists, and each had a dig. Garrett Hassard had a match-high five block assists, a pair of kills, and an ace.

The Wildcats will take on Wells College on Wednesday, April 30th at 7:00 PM. The game will take place at Wells in Aurora, New York.
