MVB: Wildcats Win Two On Senior Day. Garrett Hassard Breaks Total Blocks Career Record.

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's volleyball team won two matches on Sunday over NVU-Johnson on Senior Day. Both matches were 3-0 wins for the Wildcats. Prior to the game, the Wildcats honored the team's three seniors Matthew Russo, Andrew Bertino, and Garrett Hassard with a short ceremony to highlight their career accolades while at SUNY Poly. One senior, Garrett Hassard, put a big exclamation point on the day by breaking the all-time total blocks record in the day's second match. 

 

THE MATCHES: 

The matches were never in doubt for the Wildcats who won all of the matches by at least eight points. In the first match, SUNY Poly hit .484 as a team, had 13 service aces, and 13 total blocks. They hit .318 in the second set, had 15 aces, and nine total blocks.

 

FIRST MATCH NOTABLE PERFORMANCES: 

  • Jason Aubrey led the way for the Wildcats in the first match with 12 kills on 17 swings for a hitting percentage of .529. 

  • Senior Matthew Russo had seven kills, seven digs, two block assists, and two service aces. 

  • Garrett Hassard and James Mion each had six kills on nine swings. Hassard had five block assists, a solo block, and four aces. Mion had two digs and a block assist. 

  • Nathan Farnham had 28 assists, seven digs, and a block assist. 



SECOND MATCH NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Garrett Hassard broke the program record for total blocks in the second set of the second match when he recorded his second block assist of the day. He now has 232 total blocks in his career surpassing the prior record (231) held by AJ Davids who played for the Wildcats from 2013 to 2016. Hassard finished the game with two kills, three aces, three digs, and two block assists. 

  • Jordan Weir led the Wildcats with 10 kills on 15 swings. He also had two block assists. 

  • Mitchell Cole had six kills, two service aces, and two digs.

  • Nathan Farnham Had 28 assists, two digs, three block assists, one solo block, and a service ace. 

 

UP NEXT: 

The Wildcats Will travel to Nichols College for a single NECC match on Friday, March 25th. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 PM start.
