MVB: Hassard Breaks SUNY Poly All-Time Solo Blocks Record at the 2022 Wildcat Invitational.  

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's volleyball team hosted the 2022 Wildcat Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Nine teams attended the event, playing a total of 18 matches in two days. The Wildcats went 0-4 in their four matches losing to Elmira, Wentworth, Nazareth, and St. John Fisher. The weekend saw a program record broken in the Wildcat's fourth match of the weekend. Garrett Hassard broke the all-time solo blocks record set in 2011. He now sits atop the leaderboard with 49 career solo blocks. 

 

MATCH 1: Friday, January 21st

Elmira - 3

SUNY Poly - 0 

(25-13, 25-23, 25-20)

 

NOTES:

  • The Wildcats were led by Garrett Hassard in the weekend's first match. He had a team-high six kills on 11 swings, hitting .455. Hassard also had three block assists. 

  • Nathan Farnham played a good all-around game with 16 assists, a match-high four service aces, and a team-high four block assists. 

  • Kohei Clark had four kills and a pair of digs for the Wildcats. 

  • James Mion and Jason Aubrey each had three kills in the match. 

 


MATCH 2: Friday, January 21st 

Wentworth - 3

SUNY Poly -0 

(25-12, 25-23, 25-21)

 

NOTES: 

  • Garrett Hassard's solo block in the match tied the SUNY Poly all-time record. He also had four kills on seven swings, and a dig for the Wildcats. 

  • James Mion and Kohei Clark led the attack for the Wildcats with five kills each. Mion added a pair of service aces to his stat line. 

  • Jacob Wicher had a team-high five digs for the Wildcats. 

  • Nathan Farnham had two kills, 16 assists, four digs and a service ace in the match. 

 


MATCH 3: Saturday, January 22nd

Nazareth - 3

SUNY Poly - 0 

(25-19, 25-5, 25-17)

 

NOTES:

  • Garrett Hassard had four kills in the Wildcat's third match of the weekend. Hassard also had a block assist in the match.

  • Jason Aubrey also had four kills for Poly. He also recorded an ace and a team-high four digs. 

 


MATCH 4: Saturday, January 22nd

St. John Fisher - 3

SUNY Poly - 0

(25-13, 25-14, 25-12)

 

NOTES:

  • Garrett Hassard broke the all-time record for solo blocks in the last match of the Wildcat Invite. The milestone solo block happened in the second set of the match to bring the score to 11-10. Hassard now sits alone atop the record book with 49 solo blocks, surpassing Jeff Coons record set in 2011. Hassard also ranks third in block assists (143) and third in total blocks (192). Both records are within reach for him this season. 

  • Jason Aubrey played his best match of the season against Fisher. The freshman hit .200 with seven kills on 15 swings. He also had an ace and six digs. 

  • Jacob Wicher had a team-high seven digs for the Wildcats. 

 

UP NEXT: 

The Wildcats will host the Sage College Gators on Wednesday, January 26th. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start at the Wildcat Field House.
