MVB: Wildcats Lose a Five-Set Match at Sage.

ALBANY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's volleyball lost their match on Wednesday in five sets to the Sage College Gators. The Wildcats lost the first set 22-25 before taking a 2-1 advantage by winning the second set 26-24 and the third set 25-18. The fourth set was tightly contested with the Gators winning the set 25-23 to force a deciding fifth set. With the match tied at 11, a 4-0 run by the Gators sealed the Wildcats fate giving Sage their first win of the season. The Wildcats are now 3-5 this season.

 

NOTABLES:

  • Garrett Hassard (Oneonta, N.Y.) had a strong showing in the match. He had season-high 15 kills on 25 swings. He hit a team-high .480 for the Wildcats. Hassard also recorded a match-high six block assists and a pair of service aces.
  • Connor Schultz (Lancaster, N.Y.) had 12 kills, a match-high five service aces, six digs, and four block assists.
  • Jacob Vergari (Brockport, N.Y.) also had 12 kills for the Wildcats, setting a new season-high.
  • Nathan Farnham (Penfield, N.Y.) had a career-high 52 assists in the game. Farnham added three kills, four digs, a solo block, four block assists, and four digs to his stat line.
  • Lorenzo Kwolek (Glenville, N.Y.) had 10 kills, nine digs, and a block assist in the game.
  • Matthew Russo (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) had four block assists and nine kills for the Wildcats.
  • Jacob Wicher (Orchard Park, N.Y.) had a match-high 13 digs for the Wildcats.
  • Shane Wenz had a match-high 24 kills for the Sage Gators. He hit .404 on 47 swings and had eight digs.
  • Jarod Martel had 11 kills, two service aces, and six digs for the Gators.
  • Sage's Ryan Jennings had 43 assists.

The Wildcats will open up their NEAC Schedule on Saturday, February 8th with a single match at Keuka College. The match is set for a 12:00 PM start.
