MVB: Wildcats Finish Up Weekend Roadtrip 1-2.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The SUNY Poly men's volleyball team went 1-2 in three matches this past weekend with a win over Lasell and losses to Springfield and Elms. The Wildcats played Elms on Friday, losing in three sets. The team traveled to Springfield on Saturday and lost to the tri-match host Springfield after taking the first set from the Pride. The 'Cats wrapped up the weekend with a four-set win over Lasell 25-20, 21-25, 25-19, 25-22. The Wildcats are now 3-4 this season.

 

MATCH ONE: Elms College

The SUNY Poly men's volleyball team lost to Elms College on Friday in straight sets 14-25, 17-25, 11-25. The Wildcats did not hit well to start off the weekend hitting just .069 as a team, while Elms more efficiently hit .403 to earn the win. Connor Schultz (Lancaster, N.Y.) led the Wildcats with eight kills. He also added three digs and three blocks. Garrett Hassard (Oneonta, N.Y.) added five kills for the Wildcats with four total blocks. Nathan Farnham (Penfield, N.Y.) had 22 assists and three digs in the match.

MATCH TWO: Springfield College

The SUNY Poly men's volleyball team continued their weekend with a loss on Saturday night to Springfield College 3-1. The Wildcats took the first set 25-20 but lost the following three 13-25, 20-25, 19-25. The Wildcats were outhit by Springfield hitting just .203 while the Pride hit .312. Connor Schultz and Jacob Vergari (Brockport N.Y.) led the team in kills, both contributing 8 each in the four-set loss. Nathan Farnham had 23 assists and seven digs also adding two blocks. Matthew Russo (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) added 3 blocks and 3 kills in the match.

MATCH THREE: Lasell University

The Wildcats finished out the weekend with a win against Lasell College on Saturday 3-1. After a 25-20 win in the first set, the Wildcats dropped set two 21-25, coming back in sets four and five 25-19 and 25-22 to pull out the SUNY Poly win. Jacob Vergari led the way recording 11 kills, seven digs, and two blocks. Andrew Bertino (Spencerport, N.Y.) had a game-high 20 digs and added five kills for the Wildcats. Garrett Hassard had three aces and five kills in the Wildcat victory.

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will take on the Sage College Gators in a mid-week road match in Albany. The Match is set for a 7:00 PM start. The Gators enter the match with a 0-9 record this season. In the last match between the two teams, the Wildcats won in a thrilling five-set match.
