MARCY, N.Y. -The SUNY Poly Wildcats swept all three of their games this weekend to finish out the 2018 season with a 13-14 record. Two of their win's were against North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponents Penn State Altoona and Wilson. The third win was a come from behind 3-2 win over Elmira.

GAME 1:

Penn State Altoona - 0

SUNY Poly - 3

(25-20, 25-19, 25-12)

The Wildcats started their weekend with a 3-0 sweep of Penn State Altoona. The Nittany Lions entered the game with a 4-1 NEAC record; their only other loss coming against Lancaster Bible. The Wildcats handled their business, hitting an outstanding .313 as a team and winning nearly every statistical category. The game had historical significance for the Wildcats as Ryan Gloff (Brockport, N.Y.) became the all-time service aces leader at SUNY Poly when he notched his 112th ace in the second set.

STAT POINT:

• Ryan Gloff tied a match high with 12 kills on 21 swings. He also had a service ace and three block assists.
• Max Szuba (Irondequoit, N.Y.) also had 12 kills for the Wildcats. He hit .259 on 27 swings. He also had a service ace and four digs.
• Zach Goggin (Feeding Hills, Mass.) had 38 assists in the game.
• Ryan Dry and Justin Bannister each had five kills for the Nittany Lions.

GAME 2:

Elmira - 2

SUNY Poly - 3

(21-25, 23-25, 25-21, 25-18, 15-8)

The Wildcats first game on Saturday was a thriller for Wildcat fans. Trailing two games to none, the Wildcats fought back and won the third, fourth, and fifth sets to complete the unlikely come from behind victory. After hitting just .167 in the first set, the Wildcat attack heated up, hitting .464, .462, and .321 in the three sets that they won to battle back from a 0-2 deficit.

STAT POINTS:

• Ryan Gloff played another fantastic game for the Wildcats. The junior had a match high 17 kills and hit an impressive .519 on 27 swings. Gloff also had a match high three service aces, three block assists, and a solo block.
• James Homan (Fairport, N.Y) had 15 kills on 19 swings. His six block assists were a match high.
• Zach Goggin had a season high 53 assists in the five set match.
• Brian Malsan (Slingerlands, N.Y.) had a match high 19 digs and an assist.
• Max Szuba added 10 kills to the Wildcat total. The junior also had five digs.
• Dan Symer had a team high 13 kills for Elmira. He also had a team high 11 digs.
• Jeremy Best had 47 assists and a team high 2 service aces for Elmira.

GAME 3:

Wilson - 0

SUNY Poly - 3

(25-19, 25-19, 25-21)

The Wildcats continued their winning ways in the third game of the weekend, and last of the regular season. The Wildcats swept the three set match with an efficient attack and sound serving. The Wildcats out hit Wilson by 25 kills in the match.

• Max Szuba had a match high 18 kills on 34 swings. He finished the regular season with a team high 222 kills and a .199 hitting percentage. He also had nine digs in the match.
• Garrett Hassard (Oneonta, N.Y.) finished his regular season with an eight kill match. Hassard also had a solo block and a block assist.
• Zachary Sweet (Brockport, N.Y.) had a solid match in the middle for the Wildcats. Sweet hit .500 with eight kills. He also had a block assist.
• Zach Goggin finished up the regular season with a 44 assist match. His regular season total stands at 807 and his career total is now 3,403.
• Donovan Suguitan (Clifton Park, N.Y.) had seven kills and a match high four service aces. He finished the regular season with a team high 30 service aces.

UP NEXT:

With the two conference wins, the Wildcats secured the #3 seed in the NEAC Championship Tournament and earned the right to host a NEAC Quarterfinal. The quarterfinal will be held on Tuesday, April 10th at SUNY Poly's Wildcat Field House against the #6 seeded Keuka College Wolves. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start. This season, the Wildcats beat Keuka 3-1 in their only meeting.
