Men’s Basketball Falls to Cobleskill on the Road, 50-47

COBLESKILL, N.Y. - The Fighting Tigers survived a bruising, low-scoring affair to upend the SUNY Polytechnic Men's Basketball Team (2-9, 1-2 NEAC) in NEAC action on Wednesday night, 50-47.

Neither team was able to break 35% from the field for the game, but the Fighting Tigers were able to get to the line more than the Wildcats, finishing 20-27 from the charity stripe compared to 7 of 11 for SUNY Poly.

Ryan McCarthy (Camden, N.Y. / Camden) led SUNY Poly in defeat with 12 points including a three-pointer with 4.8 seconds left that pulled the Wildcats to within one, 48-47. Cobleskill knocked down its free throws on the ensuing possession, though, and was able to put the game away.

The only other Wildcat in double-figures was Kaleel Johnson (Syracuse, N.Y. / Syr. Acad. of Science), who scored 11 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Johnson, however, ultimately fouled out of the game and was therefore limited to just 20 minutes of playing time.

Travis Woods led the Fighting Tigers with 12 points, while senior point guard Alexis Nunez added 11.

The Wildcats hit the road next to take on Wilson College this Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 5:00 pm to follow the women's game at 3:00.
