JENKINTOWN, PA.- The SUNYIT Men's Baseball team (7-8, 2-0 NEAC) braved a cold and rainy Friday afternoon as they went on the road and defeated Penn St.-Abington in their NEAC opening double header by scores of 8-5 and 5-0.

The Wildcats got off to a fast start in game one as clean-up hitter Dom Galimo (Utica, N.Y./ Notre Dame) delivered a two out single that brought home the first run of the game in the top of the first inning. The Wildcats would threaten in the following innings but were unable to push runs across the plate until the 5^th inning when Galimo struck again, singling home senior Jim Sass (Kingston, N.Y./ Kingston) to tie the game at two runs apiece.

The Wildcat attack wasn't done there; a 3 run top of the 6^th inning had the Wildcats sitting in good position just six outs away from the victory. As usual, the Wildcats didn't want to make things easy on themselves as the Nittany Lions were able to string together a few hits in the bottom of the 7^th and tie the game at 5. The Wildcats weren't going to go quietly in the 8^th however as seniors Ryan Dungey (Vernon, N.Y./ VVS) and Kevin Rowlands (New York Mills, N.Y./ Notre Dame) led off the inning with back to back singles up the middle. After a throwing error to advance the runners, pinch hitter Connor Passalacqua (Whitestown, N.Y./ Whitesboro) delivered a sac fly that put the Wildcats ahead 6-5. The attack wasn't done there, as a Dante Rose (Utica, N.Y./ Notre Dame) single down the left field line plated two more Wildcat runs and put the visitors ahead for good, with Dungey closing the door on the mound to secure the 8-5 victory.

Dungey led the way for the Wildcats at the plate as he went 3-4, scoring 3 runs and tacking on an RBI. He also earned the win on the mound as he pitched 1 1/3 innings of hitless baseball for the Wildcats. Jeff Albright (New York Mills, N.Y./ New York Mills) got the start and threw 6 2/3 innings allowing only 4 earned runs while striking out 5 batters.

Game two got off to a rocky start for the Wildcats as the Nittany Lions quickly got runners on first and third in the bottom of the first inning. The tide quickly changed however as second basemen Jim Sass made a diving catch in shallow right field, got up and flipped the ball to first basemen Tyler Vyce (Waterford, N.Y./ Shenendehowa) who turned and gunned the ball to third to complete the rare triple play. The Wildcats took the momentum and ran from there. Joe Redmond led the Wildcats as he threw a masterful complete game shut-out, only allowing 5 hits while striking out four batters.

Ryan Dungey stayed red hot for the Wildcats as he finished the game 4-4 with a double and home run. He finished the day 7-8 with 2 RBI and 7 runs scored. Junior Joe O'Rourke (Camden, N.Y./ Camden) finished game two 2-4 at the plate and tallied 4 total hits on the day with 2 RBI.

The Wildcats are back in action Sunday as they host Keuka College for a double header starting at 2:00 pm.
