SUNY Poly Athletics

2022-23 will mark the ninth season for Coach Rob Schoener at SUNY Poly. In his tenure the Wildcats have a .648 winning percentage and have made appearances in their Conference Championship Tournament in each of the last six seasons.

This past season, Coach Schoener led his Wildcats to a North Atlantic Conference West Division Championship and were just shy of a hoisting the trophy in the team’s first year in the conference. The Wildcats went 18-10 with an 11-2 record in conference play. Josh Gregory earned a d3hoops All-District Award, a NABC All-District Award, and was named a d3hoops All-American. Gregory and Jesse O’Dell were both NAC All-Conference Selections and LJ Randle was on the NAC Sportsmanship Team.

In his eight seasons at SUNY Poly, Coach Schoener has helped his players earn 14 All-Conference awards, two d3hoops All-Region Awards, two NABC All-District Awards, and one d3hoops All-American Award.

Schoener came to Marcy from SUNY Delhi, where he was the Head Men’s Basketball Coach from 2007-2014. At Delhi, which competed in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) during his tenure, he amassed a career record of 155-70, including a 114-22 record over his last four seasons. He twice led the Broncos to the Region III Championship in 2011 and 2012, and in 2012, the team placed third at the NJCAA Division III National Tournament.

Prior to Delhi, Schoener served as an assistant coach for Monroe Community College from 2004 to 2007. In the 2006-07 season, Monroe was the national runner-up at the Division II NJCAA Tournament, the highest finish in school history.

Schoener is a graduate of St. John Fisher College in Rochester, N.Y., where he was a team captain and helped lead the Cardinals to an 81-23 record in his four years as a player.

Schoener currently resides in New Hartford with his wife and two daughters.
