WVB: Wildcats Drop Home Opener Against Wells.

MARCY, N.Y. -  The SUNY Poly women's volleyball team had their first home match of the season Tuesday night against Wells. The Wildcats returned home after participating in the Cardinal Classic hosted by SUNY Plattsburgh. The Express would win the game in straight sets, 3-0. With the loss, the Wildcats move to 0-4 on the season, while the Express improve to 3-0.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Express jumped out to a quick start in the first set, working their way to an 11-3 lead, before the Wildcats were able to narrow the gap to 21-15, before eventually dropping the back and forth first set. The Wildcats would take 9 of 12 points during a stretch in the first set.

In the second set, the Express maintained the lead for the majority of the set, however, it was a tight back-and-forth set that saw SUNY Poly narrow the lead to 19-15 before the Express would win the last six points of the set.   

The last set proved to be the toughest of the night, where there were seven ties or lead changes. The Wildcats however weren't able to hold on, as the Express took the last set 25-16 to win the match.

Ryan Fitzgerald registered 12 digs, while also adding 7 assists. Brennah Durfee led the Wildcats with 5 kills and also registered 9 digs. Kierra Connor and Aeron Hamm also registered 3 kills apiece for the Wildcats.

 

NOTABLE STATISTICS:

  • Ryan Fitzgerald led the Wildcats with 12 digs, while Brennah Durfee led the Wildcats with 5 kills.
  • Alycia Wilson led the Express with 12 kills, while Ellie Te and Lexi Carfi added 9 kills, and Elise Peacock added 8 kills. Te also added a team-high 16 digs.
