WVB: Wildcats Win Two in NAC Tri-match Against Cazenovia and Canton.

MARCY, N.Y. -  The SUNY Poly women's volleyball team won two North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matches on Saturday to improve their conference record to 3-2 this season. The Wildcats beat Cazenovia for the second time this season in five sets 25-23, 16-25, 25-23, 17-25, 15-8. The second match of the day was a 3-1 win over the SUNY Canton Kangaroos 25-13, 25-21, 21-25, 25-23. 

 

GAME 1: Cazenovia

The Wildcats got off to a good start in the match, going up 1-0 despite struggling on the offensive side of the net. The second set was a tough loss for SUNY Poly, but a strong third set put the Wildcats right back in the driver's seat. The match would be won in the fifth set thanks to a great attack by the Wildcats. They hit .208 in the third set and hit .360 in the fifth set to lock in the win. The Wildcats set a season-high with 95 digs and matched their season-high with six total blocks (1 solo/10 assists). 

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES: 

  • Emma Draper played a fantastic all-around match for the Wildcats. She had a team-high 15 kills on 39 swings, had 19 digs, a solo block, and a block assist. The 19 digs were a career-high for Draper. 

  • Ryan Fitzgerald also had a solid match, finishing up with 13 kills, nine digs, two service aces, and a pair of block assists. 

  • Brennah Durfee and Brooke Durfee each had seven kills for the Wildcats. Brooke also had a career-high 14 digs in the match. 

  • Kaley Pichura had 40 assists, six kills, nine digs, and a team-high four service aces in the match for the Wildcats.

  • Sydney Pellman led the Wildcats with 23 digs in the match. 

  • Karissa Decosse had a team high 15 kills for Cazenovia. She also had four service aces and nine digs. 

  • Taylor Kutzuba had a match-high 27 digs for Cazenovia. 

 

GAME 2: SUNY Canton

The Wildcats picked up where they left off in the second match of the day. The offense was strong, posting respectable hitting percentages in all four sets of the match. They hit a season-high .214 in the match. The tone was set early for the 'Cats who hit .478 in the first set of the match. The Wildcats were also dominant on the service line where they racked up a season-high 17 aces as a team. 

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES: 

  • Emma Draper had another fantastic game for the Wildcats. She hit .417 on 24 swings with 11 kills. Draper also had 11 digs and three service aces. 

  • Kaley Pichura set a new career-high for herself with a match-high seven service aces. She also had 37 assists, nine digs, and five kills. 

  • Sabrina Trimblett had eight kills in the match. She hit .375 on 16 swings. 

  • Sydney Pellman had a match-high 18 digs for the Wildcats. 

  • Ryan Fitzgerald had eight kills, a service ace, and three digs for the Wildcats.

  • Brennah Durfee had eight kills and a dig. 

  • Brooke Durfee recorded seven kills on 23 swings (.217) and had four digs. 

  • Alyssa Adams and Victoria Norton each had 10 kills for SUNY Canton. 

  • Kay Carlson had 16 digs for Canton.

The Widlcats will host the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers in a North Atlantic Conference match on Wednesday, October 24th. The match is scheduled for 7:00 PM at SUNY Poly's Wildcat Field House. The game will be streamed live on the SUNY Poly Sports Network (SPSN).
