DELHI, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly Wildcats Women's Volleyball team traveled to SUNY Delhi for a non-conference matchup on Columbus Day. The Wildcats took the match in straight sets (25-23, 31-29, 25-17). With the victory, SUNY Poly improves to 7-12 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The first set of the match was back and forth, as neither team held a lead of more than three points until late in the set. With the score tied at 18, the Wildcats scored six of the next eight points to take a 24-20 lead. After a SUNY Delhi timeout, the Broncos would respond by winning the next three points. An error from SUNY Delhi would end the set, giving the Wildcats a 1-0 set advantage.

The second set was more of the same. A back and forth battle ensued and continued into extra points. With the score knotted at 29 apiece, Makayla Hulett (Colonie, N.Y.) recorded consecutive kills to end the set and give the Wildcats a commanding lead.

The Wildcats built off of the momentum of the first two sets to take the third set handily. SUNY Poly trailed only after the first point of the set.

NOTABLES:

• Makayla Hulett led SUNY Poly with 18 kills and two service aces. She also had 13 digs in the match.
• Karlie King (Liverpool, N.Y.) totaled 16 kills and 11 digs on the night.
• Shannon McIntyre (New Berlin, N.Y.) recorded a match-high 18 digs to go along with a service ace.
• Kaley Pichura (Syracuse, N.Y.) had a match-high 44 assists. She added eight digs, a service ace, and two kills.

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will face local rival Utica College on Thursday, October 17th. In the first match between the two teams, SUNY Poly came away with a hard-fought 3-1 victory on the road. The match on Thursday is set to begin at 7:00PM in the Wildcat Fieldhouse.
