WVB: Wildcats Take Down Local Rival Utica College.

UTICA, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly Women's Volleyball team took down cross-town rival Utica College in front of a packed house on Monday night. The Wildcats overcame an early deficit to take the match in four sets (18-25, 25-23, 27-25, 25-16). With the victory, SUNY Poly improves to 4-8 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Wildcats started the match slow, and with the help of a loud and intense audience, Utica College began the match on a 9-0 run. After SUNY Poly Head Coach Juleah Wanner called a timeout, the Wildcats bounced back and were able to cut the lead to as few as three points trailing 17-20. The Pioneers were able to maintain their lead in the first set winning 25-18.

The second set started much better for SUNY Poly. With the set tied at 8-8, Kaley Pichura (Syracuse, N.Y.) went on an eight point service run, including a service ace and kills from three different Wildcats. SUNY Poly would maintain the lead throughout the set, holding off a late run by the Pioneers. After a long rally, Junior Outside Hitter Makayla Hulett (Colonie, N.Y.) ended the second set with a kill.

In the third set, the Wildcats built off the momentum from the second set. SUNY Poly opened the set with three straight points. Utica would bounce back and take a 16-9 lead, but SUNY Poly bounced back and took the long third set 27-25.

The fourth and final set of the match was all SUNY Poly. The Wildcats cleaned up their serve receive and passing to take down the Pioneers convincingly 25-16.
