WVB: Wildcats Finish 2-2 at the UR/RIT Tournament. King Named to All-Tournament Team.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly Women's Volleyball team recorded their first two wins of the season this weekend defeating SUNY Canton on Friday and Medaille on Saturday. Karlie King (Liverpool, N.Y.) was named to the All-Tournament Team for the second straight season. The Wildcats finished their four-match slate in the RIT/Rochester Tournament 2-2, placing seventh out of 11 teams.

 

MATCH 1: 

The Wildcats began the weekend at the University of Rochester by taking on St. John Fisher College. The Cardinals proved to be too much for SUNY Poly as they took the match in straight sets (25-13, 25-16, 25-14). Makayla Hulett (Colonie, N.Y.) led the Wildcats with four kills in the match. 

 

MATCH 2: 

SUNY Poly quickly bounced back after the defeat to take on SUNY Canton. The Wildcats went on to win the match in four sets (25-18, 22-25, 25-15, 25-22). SUNY Poly used a strong balanced attack to take down SUNY Canton. Leading the way for the Wildcats were Brittany Adams (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and Makayla Hulett (Colonie, N.Y.), both of whom finished the match with 12 kills. Karlie King added eight kills, four assists, 16 digs, and a service ace. Kaley Pichura (Syracuse, N.Y.) had 31 assists in the match to go along with two service aces and 10 digs. Shannon McIntyre (New Berlin, N.Y.) recorded 15 digs and a service ace for the Wildcats.

 

MATCH 3: 

SUNY Poly opened play on Saturday against RIT. The Wildcats battled against a tough Tiger team, but in the end, came up short. RIT won the match in straight sets (25-20, 25-22, 25-14). Hulett led the Wildcats in kills with nine to go along with a service ace. Karlie King added eight kills in the match. Kaley Pichura had 26 assists and Shannon McIntyre had 14 digs for SUNY Poly. Katie Hobler led RIT with 15 kills.

 

MATCH 4:

In the final match of the weekend, SUNY Poly defeated Medaille in four sets (25-17, 25-21, 17-25, 25-13). Karlie King led the Wildcats with 14 kills, adding five service aces and 19 digs. Makayla Hulett added 13 kills and 10 digs. Kaley Pichura set a new career-high with 37 assists and Shannon McIntyre recorded 25 digs for SUNY Poly.

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will open NEAC Play play on Wednesday, September 11th when they travel to NEAC rival SUNY Cobleskill. The match is set to begin at 7:00pm.
