WVB: Wildcats Take Down Sage in Straight Sets.

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly Wildcats women's volleyball team had a strong first match on their home floor as they defeated Sage in 3 sets (25-11, 25-10, 25-18). Karlie King (Liverpool, N.Y.) led all players with 13 kills and 13 digs. The win brings the Wildcats to 2-6 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

In the first set, the Wildcats went on an 11 point run led by Sydney Johnson (Nine Mile Falls, Wash.) and her 2 service aces. Karlie King and Brittany Adams (Clifton Park, N.Y.) finished the first set with 4 kills apiece, and Johnson added another service ace in the set.

The Wildcats continued their strong play in the second set, starting on a 7-0 run again led by Johnson's serve. King had 6 kills in the set, and Adams added 4 kills to lead the charge for the Wildcats.

The third set was much of the same SUNY Poly. The Wildcats recorded another 3 service aces and 11 kills to wrap up the 3-0 win.

NOTABLES:

  • Karlie King had 13 kills on 28 attempts for an attack percentage of .357 to go along with 13 digs and 1 service ace.
  • Sydney Johnson led the Wildcats with 33 assists, 5 service aces. She also had 9 digs and 2 kills. Her career assist total is now 3,067, just 51 assists shy of the program record.
  • Brittany Adams had 8 kills on 14 total attacks for a kill percentage of .500.
  • The Wildcats had their second best hitting percentage of the season. They hit .308 with 37 kills on 91 total attacks.
  • Emma Parkington led the Gators with 5 kills. She also had 4 assists and 4 digs.

UP NEXT:

The SUNY Poly Wildcats return to action on Thursday September 13th. They will take on NEAC rival SUNY Cobleskill at SUNY Poly's Wildcat Fieldhouse. The Wildcats have a 13-0 all-time record against Cobleskill. In their last matchup, SUNY Poly earned a four set victory on their home court. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00pm.
