WVB: Sydney Johnson Records 3,000th Assist and Karlie King Named to All-Tournament Team at U of R Invitational.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly women's volleyball had a tough three games this past weekend at the University of Rochester Invitational. The Wildcats went 0-3 but had a career milestone and an All-Tournament Team Selection. The Wildcats fell 0-3 to St. John Fisher on Friday and 0-3 to both Rochester and Nazareth on Saturday.

 

MILESTONE ALERT:

In the second match of the weekend, senior Sydney Johnson (Nine Mile Falls, Wash.) became just the second Wildcat to ever reach the 3,000 assist mark. Johnson finished the weekend with 3,034 total assists. She needs just 84 assists this season to become the all-time leader, surpassing Nicole Higgins who had 3,118 from 2007-2010.

 

MATCH 1:

In the first game of the tournament, the SUNY Poly Wildcats lost to St. John Fisher in three sets (25-23, 25-20, 25-21). The Cardinals were led by Alea Steigerwald's 12 kills, 3 service aces, and 14 digs. Karlie King (Liverpool, N.Y.) led the Wildcats with 16 kills and 13 digs.

 

MATCH 2:

In game two of the weekend, the Wildcats fell to Rochester (25-11, 25-19, 25-12). Clara Martinez led the University of Rochester with 13 kills, and had a kill percentage of .500. Karlie King had 7 kills and 12 digs, and Sydney Johnson added 15 assists and 4 service aces in the loss.

 

MATCH 3:

The Wildcats dropped their final match of the tournament to Nazareth (25-19, 25-11, 26-24). Kelsey Milligan had 11 kills, and Jessica Barry added 35 assists for Nazareth. For the Wildcats, Karlie King and Casandra Campion (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) tallied 8 kills apiece, and Sydney Johnson had 25 assists.

 

NOTE:

Karlie King was named to the All-Tournament Team. She recorded of 31 kills and 35 digs in three matches. 

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats return to action Monday September 10th with their home opener against Sage. The match is scheduled for a 7:00pm start in the Wildcat Fieldhouse. The Wildcats are 5-8 all-time against Sage. In their last meeting the Wildcats won 3-1 on the road.
