KEUKA, NY – The SUNYIT Women's Volleyball team (13-9, 7-1 NEAC) had a stellar weekend in Keuka, winning all three of their matches in the two-day NEAC Crossover competition.

The Wildcats began the first day of play with a win over Cazenovia (7-12, 2-3 NEAC) in straight sets, 25-14, 25-17, and 25-13. The Wildcats held the edge in kills (32 to 17) and assists (29 to 15).

In their second match, the Wildcats were dominant again, allowing double digits in only one set en route to a 25-9, 25-18, 25-9 win. Kaitlyn Harrington and Juleah Vedder led the way for SUNYIT with 16 kills each.

After the first day of play, Coach Jake Bluhm was laudatory:

"The girls are playing very well especially with all of the adversity they are facing.  Injuries have started to pile up on the team and we have shown a lot of character to play through them; the girls really play hard out there every time they take the court and I can't ask for anything more."

SUNYIT faced their toughest test of the weekend on Day Two in an afternoon contest with the host Keuka Storm.

The first set was back-and-forth as Keuka pulled to within one point on a Devan Curtis kill, and within one again a moment to put the score at just 11-10 in favor of SUNYIT. But SUNYIT scored 11 of the next 14 points to seize control and take a 22-13 lead en route to the win.

Neither team enjoyed larger than a three-point lead in the second set. A service ace gave Keuka a lead at 20-17, but once again SUNYIT closed fast, using an 8-2 run to win the set.

The drama of the first two sets dissipated in the third - SUNYIT raced out to a 7-1 lead and never led by less than four on their way to a perfect sweep for the weekend.

The Wildcats have the week off to prepare for a home game vs. SUNY Canton on Monday, October 10, at 6:00pm.
