Fletcher Steps Down as Head Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Coach, Accepts Similar Position with Frostburg State

UTICA, NY – SUNYIT head men's and women's volleyball coach Rebecca Fletcher has resigned from her position to become the new head women's volleyball coach at Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Md.

Fletcher, who was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association in 2009 as one of thirty up-and-coming coaches under the age of 30 in the sport of volleyball at all collegiate levels, helped turn around the women's volleyball team while building the men's team from scratch during her four-year tenure at SUNYIT.  On the women's side, Fletcher led SUNYIT to three straight North Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament appearances and a pair of runner-up finishes in 2008 and 2009. She was named the NEAC Coach of the Year in 2008 after leading the team to a then program-best record of 21-11, which she matched this past season.  Additionally, her 67 career victories are the most in program history.

Fletcher was also the first and only coach for the men's program since its inception in 2008, guiding the team to five wins in its inaugural season while posting back-to-back nine-win seasons the last two years. Her 2010 squad led the nation in both team and individual digs, while this year's team made a postseason appearance for the first time in the program history after a successful transition from the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) to the newly formed United Volleyball Conference (UVC).

Fletcher will now take over a Frostburg women's volleyball program that has advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 10 of the last 16 seasons, including a current run of four-straight appearances from 2007 to 2010. This past fall, Frostburg State hosted the NCAA Tournament Regional and advanced to the regional championship match, both for the first time in the 17-year history of the program.

SUNYIT has begun the search for its next full-time head men's and women's volleyball coach.
