Women’s Swimming Finishes Sixth at NEAC Championships

COBLESKILL, NY – The shorthanded SUNYIT women's swimming team finished with 48 points and took sixth place out of six teams at the North Eastern Athletic Conference Championships, which were held at SUNY Cobleskill this past Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Lady Wildcats qualified to swim in the finals for all six events, and went on to to set season-best times in all six of those events.  Leading the way was junior Katie Schlegel (Baldwinsville, NY/Morrisville State), who set school records in three events, including the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:22.79 for second place, the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:21.93 for third place and the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 3:02.57 for second place.  Junior Bridget McMahon (Avoca, NY/Alfred State) also had a strong outing, taking eighth place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:25.57 and tenth place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:14.58.

Gallaudet University won the event with a score of 565 points and was led by senior Carlisle Robinson, who was crowned the NEAC Female Swimmer of the Year.  Cazenovia claimed second place with 372 points and was followed by Wells (347), SUNY Cobleskill (301) and the College of Saint Elizabeth (197).
