WSOC: Harrison’s Big Game Leads Wildcats to a 5-2 NEAC Win Over Wells.

AURORA, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's soccer team improved to 3-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play on Saturday thanks in part to a huge day by Shannon Harrison (Holland Patent, N.Y.). Harrison had six points in the game with two goals and two assists. The Wildcats scored all five of their goals un-answered. Both of the Expresse's goals were scored in the last six minutes of regulation. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

The Wildcats got out to a quick start, striking first in the seventh minute on a Chloe Smith (Newport, N.Y.) goal. Shannon Harrison had a part in the next four goals for the Wildcats. She assisted on a Sarah George (Dolgeville, N.Y.) goal in the 15th minute and an Elizabeth Lawrence (Boonville, N.Y.) goal in the 56th minute. Harrison would go on to score two goals to give the Wildcats a 5-0 lead with just 20 minutes left in regulation. Lawrence assisted on the fourth goal of the game, Smith assisted on the fifth. Wells would go on to score two goals in the last six minutes of play, but the effort came too late. 

 

NOTABLES: 

  • Shannon Harrison had six points on two goals and two assists. She has 13 points this season. 

  • Chloe Smith and Elizabeth Lawrence each had three points on a goal and an assist in the game. Smith and Lawrence both have five points this season.

  • Abby Smith had a goal in the game for Wells. 

  • Mackenzie Powers scored the Express's second goal on an assist by Erin Persons.

The Wildcats will take on SUNY ESF at home on Sunday, September 29th. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start at SUNY Poly's Wildcat Field.
