Women's Soccer Puts Up Fight on the Road at Top Conference Foe before Coming Up Short 5-3

LANCASTER, PA  – The SUNYIT Women's Soccer Team (7-8, 6-4 NEAC) fell to last year's NEAC Conference Regular Season Champions, the Lancaster Bible College Chargers (12-3, 9-1 NEAC) by a score of 5 to 3 on Saturday.

The Wildcats fell behind 3-1 in the first half, but battled to a 2-2 tie with the Chargers in the second half.

Despite the loss, SUNYIT witnessed the continuing emergence of first-year Wildcat Dakota Hanley (Franklin, N.Y. / Franklin Central). Hanley scored two goals on the night, including the game's first in just the fourth minute of play. Hanley has now scored in five consecutive games, and has vaulted into a tie for second on the team in goals with Abbey Hanehan (Stillwater, N.Y. / Stillwater), who was responsible for SUNYIT's second goal of the game, an unassisted blast into the upper right corner in the 65th minute of play.

As for the Chargers, they out shot the Wildcats 25 to 9. SUNYIT goalkeeper Aubrey Campbell (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn) made a valiant effort with 12 saves on the day, but the Wildcats were getting hit from all angles as four different players scored for the Chargers. Only Chargers star Monica Horning scored more than once, registering her 14th and 15th goals of the year.

SUNYIT will travel to Cazenovia next on Saturday, October 20th, for the last leg of a three-game road swing. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
