MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly Women's Lacrosse Team (10-3, 7-1 NEAC) suffered their first conference lost on Friday evening to host Morrisville St. (8-8, 7-1 NEAC). The Mustangs outscored the Wildcats in the second half to earn the 10-9 win.

Mari Ames (West Carthage, N.Y. / Carthage HS) led all scorers with four goals on the day. Krysta Beha (Marcy, N.Y. / Whitesboro HS) matched her teammate in points, with one goal and a game-high three assists.

Morrisville was first to score two and a half minutes into the game to take the early 1-0 lead. The two teams exchanged goals over the next nine minutes with the home team holding a 3-2 lead with 15 minutes to play. SUNY Poly answered with a three goal run that spanned 13 minutes with two of those goals coming from Ames. Meghan Serota (Black River, N.Y. / Carthage HS) capped the run with 31 seconds to play, giving Poly the 5-3 lead. Morrisville wasn't done, however, as the won the ensuing draw and scored with eight seconds left.

The Wildcats opened the second half with two quick goals from Serota to pull ahead 7-4. After one more goal from each team, the Mustangs went on a four-goal run that would prove to be the difference-maker for the home team. With 19 minutes to play, Morrisville put together four goals over three and a half minutes to take the 9-8 advantage. Ames answered just over a minute later with a beautiful goal to the top left corner to tie things up at 9s.

The next ten minutes of the game was decided by defensive play on both ends. Megan Will (Remsen, N.Y. / Remsen HS) posted three huge saves to keep her team in the game during that span, but Jackie O'Sullivan of Morrisville scored what would be the game-winner with 3:25 to play.

Beha won the following draw, but after a Wildcat turnover Morrisville was able to take the next two minutes off the clock. The Mustangs got into a stall formation until they turned the ball over on an errant pass with 1:03 to play. The Wildcats weren't able to get a shot off during that time after a strong defensive stand from the home team.

Serota finished with three goals and Jenny Maxam (Clinton, N.Y. / Clinton HS) chipped in a goal for the Wildcats.

Hope Cerasuolo (Johnstown, N.Y. / Johnstown HS) led the defense with six ground balls and a game-high four caused turnovers.

Despite the loss, Will was phenomenal in goal, turning away 10 shots.

SUNY Poly returns to action today against top-seeded Cazenovia. Both Wildcat teams will be battling for a top three spot in the NEAC Tournament. The game will take place on the road at 3:00.
