WLAX: Utica Hands Wildcats First Loss

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly Women's Lacrosse Team (3-1) lost their first game on Wednesday evening to crosstown foe Utica College (6-3) by a score of 16-4.

The Pioneers used a first-half shutout to propel past the Wildcats. Utica's Courtney Wheeler was the first on the board and scored two more throughout the half to pace the visitors.

The Wildcats scored their first goal a little over two minutes into the second half when Krysta Beha (Marcy, N.Y. / Whitesboro HS) tallied an unassisted goal.

Mari Ames (West Carthage, N.Y. / Carthage HS) and Jenny Maxam (Clinton, N.Y. / Clinton HS) led the offense with a goal and an assist each. Meghan Serota (Black River, N.Y. / Carthage) also recorded a goal on the day.

Hope Cerasuolo (Johnstown, N.Y. / Johnstown HS), Tierney McGlynn (Watervliet, N.Y. / Watervliet HS), and Beha all had a game-high four ground balls. Corrina Marconi (Rochester, N.Y. / Gates-Chili HS) led all players with six caused turnovers.

Carli Rogan (Colonie, N.Y. / Colonie HS) got the start in goal and recorded eight saves on the day.

The Wildcats open conference play this weekend when they host Lancaster Bible on Friday afternoon at 4:00.
