WBB: Wildcats Travel South For Tripp Sports Cruzin Classic.

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The SUNY Poly women's basketball team headed south for their semi-annual winter break trip. This season, the women headed to Ft. Lauderdale to take part in the Cruzin Classic. In their first game, the Wildcats were matched up with the Hastings College Broncos. The Wildcats struggled right out of the gate, getting outscored 24-6 in the first quarter. And ultimately losing 70-49. In the second game the Wildcats also suffered a loss 73-69 at the hands of Johnson & Wales.

GAME 1: 

The Wildcats got behind early in their game against Hastings. Hastings put up a 22 point deficit in the first quarter and went on to out score the Wildcats in the second and third quarters. The final score was 70-49.

NOTABLES: 

• Kierra Connor (Camden, N.Y.) had a career high 12 points for the Wildcats. She also had seven rebounds in the game. 

• Jaida Washington (Elmira, N.Y.) had eight points, nine rebounds, and four blocks in the game for the Wildcats. 

• Molly Burdick (Johnson City, N.Y.) also had eight points for SUNY Poly. 

• Taylor Aybar (Woodside, N.Y.) had a game high six assists, two steals, seven points, and a block. 

GAME 2: 

SUNY Poly's second game of the Cruzin Classic was a bit more interesting than the first. The two Wildcat teams played a back and forth game. In the second, SUNY Poly took their largest lead of 13 points into the locker room, but Johnson and Wales answered back with a monster third quarter, to take a slim 55-54 lead into the fourth. In the fourth JWU held onto their slim margin to earn their ninth win of the season. 

NOTABLES: 

• Molly Burdick had a breakout game for the Wildcats. She scored a game high 24 points and pulled down a game high 11 rebounds to record her second double-double of the season. Burdick shot 63% from the field, knocked down a pair of three pointers, had a pair of assists, a steal, and a block in the game. 

• Taylor Ann Day (Brooktondale, N.Y.) had a solid game for the Wildcats. She scored 14 points, had six rebounds, a block, and a steal. 

• Jaida Washington and Kiersten Leos (North Bay, N.Y.) each scored nine points for the Wildcats. 

• Johnson & Wales was led by Shykim Gillion who scored a team high 17 points. 

• Tianna Ayulo and Shikal Gillion scored 14 and 13 points respectively for JWU. 

UP NEXT: 

The Wildcats will hit the road to take on Tufts University, the #1 DIII women's basketball team in the country. The Jumbos are 10-0 entering the game. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM on January 6th in Medford Mass.
