WBB: Wildcats Sweep NEAC Weekend With Big Wins Over Wilson and Gallaudet.

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's basketball team completed a two win NEAC sweep this weekend with big wins over Wilson and Gallaudet. On Saturday the Wildcats won by 41 points over Wilson 85-44 and on Sunday they completed the weekend with a 68-51 win over Gallaudet. The two wins put SUNY Poly's conference record at 5-0 which has them in sole possession of first place.

The Wildcats cruised to an easy win over Wilson. The Wildcats went up 26-9 in the first quarter and never looked back. Lauren Knowles (Salisbury Mills, N.Y. / Washingtonville HS) recorded her fifth double-double of the season scoring 12 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. She also blocked three shots, had one steal, and dished out two assists in just 19 minutes of play. Shannon Tooley (Ogdensburg, N.Y. / Ogdensburg HS) had her best game of the season. She went 4-6 from the field including two 3-pointers for a career high 10 points. The final score was 85-44.

On Sunday, the team squared up with a 5-2 Gallaudet team that promised to be a tough opponent. The Wildcats would come out of the gate firing on all cylinders to yet again go up big in the first quarter. The team started out on a 20-4 run in the first five minutes of the game. The first quarter ended with SUNY Poly up 23-10 thanks to a nine point quarter from Stevie Ray (Syracuse, N.Y. / Fabius-Pompey HS) and an eight point quarter from Lauren Knowles. The Wildcats would take that 13 point lead and hold it for the rest of the game, never conceding the lead to the Bison.

Lauren Knowles scored a total of 27 points in the game. She grabbed seven rebounds, had two steals and two blocks in the game. Lauren shot 66% from the field.

Geena Gallo (Ballston Spa, N.Y. / Ballston Spa HS) recorded a double-double in the game scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in the game. She also dished out three assists and had a block in the game.

Stevie Ray finished the game with 12 points. She has a team high four assists, five rebounds, and three steals.

Statistically the Bison had the edge in shooting percentage from the field (40%-39.7%), from 3-point land (33%-25%) and from the free throw line (48%-44%). However SUNY Poly took 23 more shots than Gallaudet in the game. The Wildcats also had more assists (17-10) had fewer turnovers (11-26) and dominated in the paint (44 points - 26 points). 28 of the Wildcats 68 points came off Bison turnovers (41%).

With the two NEAC wins, the Wildcats record improves to 8-4 (5-0 NEAC). The team will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Morrisville St. to take on the Mustangs.
