Women’s Basketball Closes Out Regular Season with 66-41 Defeat of Wells; Set to Host NEAC Tournament Beginning Saturday, Feb. 28th

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly Women's Basketball Team (18-7, 16-2 NEAC) may have already clinched the NEAC overall #1 seed with last night's victory over Keuka, but they showed no signs of slowing down as even in a meaningless game the team rolled to a 25-point win over the Wells College Express (9-14, 8-10). The victory marks the eighth-straight win for the team, and their 13th win over their last 14 games.

Prior to the game SUNY Poly's lone senior Tierney McGlynn (Watervliet, N.Y. / Watervliet) was honored as part of Senior Day. McGlynn, a two-year player, hit a big three-pointer in last night's win close win over Keuka, and has been an important player off the bench at 19.8 minutes per game.

Sunday's game never got too close for the Wildcats, who closed the first half up 33-22, fittingly ending the period on a driving layup by McGlynn with just five seconds to go.

From there the 'Cats poured it on, opening the second half on a 12-2 run to take a 21-point lead at the 13:41 mark. The home team kept a safe margin from there, never letting the Express closer than 15 points the rest of the way.

Geena Gallo (Ballston Spa, N.Y. / Ballston Spa) and Molly MacLachlan (Marcellus, N.Y. / Marcellus) tied for the SUNY Poly lead in points, each recording 16 in the game. Gallo nailed 6 of 12 from the field to go along with 9 rebounds, while MacLachlan's 11 rebounds led the team and gave the freshman her 6th double-double of the year.

McGlynn finished with 8 point and 5 rebounds in 26 minutes of work, and Erika Charbonneau (Boonville, N.Y. / Adirondack) had her usual effective night, scoring 9 points and grabbing 4 rebounds while recording a team-high 2 blocks in just 17 minutes of action.

SUNY Poly swallowed up the Express on the defensive end of the court, holding the visitors to just 24% shooting. No player for the Express managed double-figures in points, as guard Cassie Smythe's 8 points led the team.

The Wildcats will now have a week off to prepare for the NEAC Tournament, which they host for the first time since the 2011-12 season, the last time the team earned the conference's overall number one seed.
