Women’s Basketball Grinds Out 54-46 Win Over Bryn Athyn

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The SUNY Poly Women's Basketball Team (12-7, 10-2 NEAC) won a low-scoring affair at Bryn Athyn College Sunday afternoon, beating the Lions 54-46 to go to 10-2 in conference.

SUNY Poly went just 17 of 71 from the field in the game but clamped down on defense to dispatch with the home team. In particular the Wildcats dominated the glass, grabbing 57 rebounds to Bryn Athyn's 46. Most impressive, SUNY Poly collected 30 offensive rebounds, allowing them an extra 13 possessions which came in handy as the Wildcats were actually slightly out shot by the Lions.

Leading the way for the team was Geena Gallo (Ballston Spa, N.Y. / Ballston Spa), who recorded a double-double with 17 points and a season-high 14 rebounds.

Molly MacLachlan (Marcellus, N.Y. / Marcellus) was next with 13 points and 8 rebounds. While no Wildcat shot particularly well, all five starters grabbed at least 6 rebounds.

The game was tied 46-all with less than 3 minutes to play. Point guard Emily Alicea (Mohegan Lake, N.Y. / Lakeland) hit a clutch three-pointer at the 2:19 mark to give the Wildcats the lead, and the Lions didn't score again as SUNY Poly closed the game on a 10-0 run.

The Wildcats have one more road game before a 4-game homestand to finish the regular season. They play at Cazenovia this Wednesday, February 11th, at 5:00 pm.
