Gallo Leads Wildcats to Conference Win

ABINGTON, P.A. – SUNY Poly women's basketball team (12-7, 10-2 NEAC) beat Penn St.-Abington (13-4, 10-3 NEAC) on the road Saturday afternoon 51-43. With the win, Wildcats are tied for first place in the NEAC North Division with Morrisville St.

Geena Gallo (Ballston Spa, N.Y. / Ballston Spa) led the Wildcats to victory with 18 points. She had another strong game at the line shooting 6-8 and added 5 rebounds on the day.

After Penn St.-Abington scored the first points of the day, SUNY Poly responded with two of their own and had control for the remainder of the game. Gallo scored 13 of her 18 in the first half making her the only player in the game to score in double digits in the first half. The Wildcats also put on a show from the line shooting 75% while their opponent was scoreless in free throws.

SUNY Poly kept up the pace in the second half thanks to Lauren Knowles (Salisbury Mills, N.Y. / Washingtonville) who pulled down 8 defensive rebounds. She also led her team in points in the second half with 6.

Knowles finished with 11 points and 13 total rebounds. Emily Alicea (Mohegan Lake, N.Y. / Lakeland) led the rest of the scorers with points of her own and an assist. Four other players added multiple points for the Wildcats.
