Wildcats Win 5th Straight Over SUNY Cobleskill

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's basketball team (11-6, 9-1 NEAC) beat SUNY Cobleskill (2-13, 1-9 NEAC) 55-34 to win their 5th straight game. This ended a five-game home stretch for SUNY Poly.  

The Wildcats played a strong game defensively totaling 11 steals and seven blocks. Molly MacLachlan (Marcellus, N.Y. / Marcellus) led the team in steals with five and Lauren Knowles (Salisbury Mills, N.Y. / Washingtonville) had all but one of the team's blocks. Knowles also led the team with 16 rebounds, the only player to reach double digits in that category. 

SUNY Poly started the game on a 17-2 run over the first six minutes. They stayed in control limiting Cobleskill to 13 first half points. The Wildcats totaled 17 defensive rebounds and added three steals. The home team also capitalized on SUNY Cobleskill's turnovers turning them into eight points of their own.

SUNY Poly started the second half with a 27-13 lead. The Wildcats spent the remainder of the game terrorizing the Fighting Tigers with a full court press and a 2-3 zone which resulted in 16 turnovers for Cobleskill and eight steals for SUNY Poly.

Geena Gallo (Ballston Spa, N.Y. / Ballston Spa) led all scorers with 20 points proving to be a force in the paint. MacLachlan added nine points with three assists and Knowles added eight points with two assists. Five other players scored multiple points for the Wildcats. 

SUNY Poly returns to action on Tuesday at Morrisville St. with tipoff at 5:00 pm.
