Women’s Basketball Finds the Bottom of the Net in NEAC Win Over St. Elizabeth

MARCY, N.Y. – In a game that was postponed due to weather-related travel issues for the visiting team, the Wildcats showed no delay in their offensive attack, burying 49% of their shots en route to a 75-47 thrashing of the St. Elizabeth Eagles.

Molly MacLachlan (Marcellus, N.Y. / Marcellus) had another big game for the Wildcats, leading all scorers with 23 points. The rookie guard also pulled down 8 rebounds and collected 3 steals on the game. MacLachlan has most certainly exceeded even the most optimistic predictions in the early season for the Wildcats, having scored in double-figures in 9 of her last 10 games, and going for a season-high 23 points in each of her past two games (both Wildcat victories).

MacLachlan was accompanied by Geena Gallo (Ballston Spa, N.Y. / Ballston Spa), who was almost unguardable on her way to 20 points on 8 of 12 shooting. Gallo made several strong drives to the hoop in the second half, finishing with her left hand on a few particularly impressive occasions.

The Wildcats were anchored inside by Lauren Knowles (Salisbury Mills, N.Y. / Washingtonville), who pulled down 11 rebounds and was on pace for more before a few tough foul calls sidelined her for much of the second half. Erika Charbonneau (Boonville, N.Y. / Adirondack) was tagged in at that point, and the junior forward played well with 6 points and 5 rebounds in 17 minutes of work.

SUNY Poly will take on Penn College tomorrow at noon in another NEAC matchup at the Campus Center Gym.
