Wildcats top SUNY Canton to Extend Win Streak to 10

CANTON, N.Y.-  The SUNYIT Women's Basketball team (18-5, 13-1) took a break from NEAC play to travel north to take on SUNY Canton (6-17) Tuesday night. The Wildcats yet again came out victorious with a 68-49 victory to extend their win streak to 10 games.

The Wildcats were able to jump out to a lead right away. An Abbey Hanehan (Stillwater, N.Y. / Stillwater) bucket just 4 minutes into the game gave the Wildcats a 4-3 lead and they would never look back from there. Throughout the first half they were able to stretch their advantage to as many as 15 points with Hanehan leading the way with 8. She would go on to score 15 points to go along with her 7 assists and 5 rebounds in the contest. The Wildcats went into the halftime break up 29-18.

Sophomore forward Lauren Knowles (Salisbury Mills, N.Y. / Washingtonville) took things from there. Knowles went 7-10 from the field, tallying 14 of her 18 points in the second half to help seal the victory. The Wildcats size proved to be too much for Canton as they would win the rebounding battle 57-42. Deasia Goodson (Freeport, N.Y. / Freeport) accounted for a game high 15 of those rebounds in just 19 minutes of play.

Canton's Brianna Sayer and Karyss Terrance both recorded double-doubles in the game to lead the hosts.

The Wildcats are back in action Friday night as they take on Lancaster Bible who is currently undefeated (15-0) in NEAC play. The game starts at 7 pm following the men's game. The SUNYIT SAAC will be hosting Winter is a Beach Night for the games, for more information on the event, click here.
