Wildcats Continue Winning

ABINGTON, P.A.- The SUNYIT Women's Basketball team (12-6, 9-1) won their 5th straight game, as they were able to handle Penn St.- Abington (4-13, 2-9 NEAC) 68-61 on the road.

After a back and forth start, Abington was able to close out the first half on an 8-2 run giving them a 10 point halftime lead over the visiting Wildcats. Sophomore forward Lauren Knowles (Salisbury Mills, N.Y. / Washingtonville) and the rest of the Wildcats weren't going to go quietly however. Knowles took over the second half scoring 15 of her game high 24 points and added a modest13 rebounds to lead the charge.

Abington fought tough and hung around, making a run late in the second half to close the Wildcat lead to 4. With the game still in doubt, senior guard Abbey Hanehan (Stillwater, N.Y. / Stillwater) hit three huge free throws to secure the win.

Tierney McGlynn (Watervliet, N.Y. / Watervliet) played a big role for the Wildcats as well, scoring 16 points to help bring home the victory. Abington was lead by a Teharah Worrell and Stephanie Keyes who both tallied 20 points for the hosts.

The Wildcats are back home Monday night for a 7:00 game against NEAC rivals Keuka College in the Campus Center Gym.
