Women’s Basketball Moves to 7-1 in Conference With Victory Over Gallaudet

MARCY, N.Y.- The SUNYIT Women's Basketball team (10-5, 7-1 NEAC) cruised to an impressive 85-58 victory over visiting Gallaudet (8-8, 5-2 NEAC) on Saturday.

The Wildcats were able to jump out to an early lead in the first half, taking a 42-25 lead into the break. Despite the Gallaudet halftime adjustments, the Wildcat's size proved to be too much for the visitors. After a mini-run by the Bison closed the gap in the second half to 13 points, the Wildcats began to pull away, using a 21-6 run to take a comfortable 72-44 lead with 7:24 to go in the game. The Wildcats aforementioned size advantage showed itself on the stat sheet, as SUNYIT tallied 60 rebounds to Gallaudet's 35. SUNYIT was led in that category by Swiss-army-knife-guard Abbey Hanehan's (Stillwater, N.Y / Stillwater), who grabbed 9 boards to go along with her 11 points.

Geena Gallo (Ballston Spa, N.Y / Ballston Spa) and Nijah Townsend (Bronx, N.Y / Truman) led the Wildcats offense, each scoring 12 points to go along with 7 rebounds apiece. Up big in the second half, SUNYIT turned to Jennifer Bullock (Bronx, N.Y / NYC Museum ) off the bench who shot 3-4 from 3-point range and finished with 9 points.

The Wildcats are back in action Tuesday January, 28th as Hamilton will visit the Campus Center Gym for a doubleheader along with the men's teams. Game time is set for 8:00 pm, to follow the men's tilt at six.
