Wildcats Bounce Back with Win

MARCY, N.Y.- The SUNYIT Women's Basketball Team (9-5, 6-1 NEAC) bounced back from a tough loss Sunday with an impressive 75-67 victory over visiting Wells College (8-7, 3-3 NEAC). The Wildcats used timely shooting and solid defense to pick up the win.

It was a tight game throughout the first half with the teams trading baskets. It wasn't until under 2 minutes left in the first half that the Wildcats pulled ahead on a pair of back to back Ashley Cox (Bronx, N.Y. / Bronx Center for Science and Mathematics) 3-pointers that helped the Wildcats to a 36-29 lead at the break.

The game remained close throughout the second half as Wells College's Ashley Roser kept the visitors in the game scoring 19 of her 32 points in the second half.  This, however, wasn't enough as the tough play of senior guard Nijee Scott (Bronx, N.Y / Truman) and the rest of the Wildcats proved to be too much. Scott was able to hit two 3-pointers late in the game to put the hosts ahead by double digits and they didn't look back from there. Scott finished with 15 points on the night.

Big contributions also came from the Wildcats' Lauren Knowles (Salisbury Mills, N.Y / Washingtonville) who recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds as well as Geena Gallo (Ballston Spa, N.Y / Ballston Spa) who added 14 points to the attack.

The Wildcats look to stay hot as they host Gallaudet on Saturday in the Campus Center gym at 3:00 pm following the Men's 1:00 pm tip.
