MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Women's Basketball Team (7-4, 4-0 NEAC) retained its undefeated-in-conference record Tuesday afternoon with a 28-point victory over host Morrisville State (4-8, 2-3 NEAC).
For the second straight game, Nijah Townsend (Bronx, N.Y. / Truman) led the Wildcats in points, scoring 19 while pulling down 7 rebounds. Most of Townsend's points came from the charity stripe, where the junior made 9 of 10.
The Wildcats moved the ball well, recording 20 team assists while shooting a solid 46% from the field. SUNYIT enjoyed a special advantage on the inside, as forward Lauren Knowles (Salisbury Mills, N.Y. / Washingtonville) scored 12 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. For the game the Wildcats out rebounded the Mustangs 59 to 33, holding the host team to just 27% shooting on the afternoon.
The Wildcats will now return home for a string of five-straight home games beginning this Saturday, Jan. 18th. SUNYIT will play host to Wilson College at 3:00 pm.
