Wildcats Fall to Keystone College Despite 20 Points and 22 Rebounds from Goodson

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Women's Basketball Team (4-4) fell to the Giants of Keystone College (6-1) on Friday evening, 84-65 at the Campus Center Gym.

The Wildcats were unable to capitalize on a career effort by sophomore Deasia Goodson (Freeport, N.Y. / Freeport). Goodson registered career-highs in both points and rebounds. The 6-foot-1 forward's 22 rebounds rank 4th in SUNYIT history for a single game.

As of the latest report, Goodson is also ranked third nationally in blocked-shots-per-game, averaging nearly four-and-a-half per contest heading into Friday's game.

Goodson's efforts on the glass helped the Wildcats to a 61-48 rebounding advantage on the night, but it didn't help SUNYIT slow down the Giant offense. The visitors made 40% of their shots, including 7 three-pointers, while four players scored in double-figures.

Leading all scorers on the night was Chantel Blake, who made 12 of her 25 attempts from the field, good for 27 points.

The Wildcats, who were down just 41-39 at the half, were victimized by a 26-5 Giant run in the second half that began with 9:28 remaining in the game and went all the way to the 2:53 mark. The score had been tied 54-54 prior to the run.

Geena Gallo (Ballston Spa, N.Y. / Ballston Spa) joined Goodson as the only two Wildcats to register in the double-digits, scoring 10 points while tying for the team-lead in assists as well with 5.

While even guards Abbey Hanehan (Stillwater, N.Y. / Stillwater) and Tierney McGlynn (Watervliet, N.Y. / Watervliet) were active on the glass with 8 and 9 rebounds respectively, the difference in the game was clearly turnovers, as the Wildcats coughed the ball up 20 times to Keystone's 10.

The Wildcats will be off for their Christmas Break until returning on Saturday, January 11th, for a home game. SUNYIT will host Alfred State in a 1:00 pm matchup.
