SUNYIT Victorious Against Hometown Rival Utica College

UTICA, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Women's Basketball team squared up with hometown rival Utica College on Wednesday. The Wildcats were able to control nearly every statistical category, as they took an early lead and kept it. The final score was 76-70.

 

Utica College was led by the freshman duo of Mary Miceli and Raquel Baudanza. Both set their career-highs for points; Miceli with 27 and Baudanza with 19. Their scoring, however, was not enough to surpass the Wildcat offense.

 

The Wildcats played a solid all-around game. They held the lead for the entire 40 minutes of the game and put together several good scoring runs. The Wildcats also caused 17 turnovers and out rebounded the Pioneers all while shooting 41 percent from the field.

 

The Wildcats Had three players score in double digits in the victory over Utica. Junior Abbey Hanahan (Stillwater, N.Y. / Stillwater H.S.) scored 12 points and had 10 rebounds recording her first double-double of the season, senior Lyndsey Brognano (Rome, N.Y. / Rome Free Academy) had 24 points and 7 assists, and senior Kayla McNeil (Stillwater, N.Y. / Stillwater) had 14 points and 2 Blocks.

 

The victory brings the Wildcats record to 2-4 and puts Utica at 5-6. The WildcatsSUNYIT will start their conference matchups this Saturday at NEAC Rival Penn. State-Harrisburg. The game is scheduled to start at 12:00 pm.
