Wildcats outlast Cazenovia, 66-52

UTICA, NY – The Lady Wildcats (19-4, 13-2 NEAC) went back-and-forth with NEAC foe Cazenovia College (5-18, 4-12 NEAC) Wednesday evening, but pulled out a smooth 66-52 defeat in regulation time.

With last night's victory, the SUNYIT Women's Basketball Team tied their school-record 19 wins from a year ago. The Wildcats finished 19-8 last year, and advanced to the NEAC Tournament Semifinals before losing to Gallaudet 53-44.

Junior guard, Lyndsey Brognano (Rome, N.Y. / RFA), led the Wildcats' offense with an impressive 26 points and four assists during her 36 minutes, while sophomore forward Nailah Cherry (Roosevelt, N.Y./Roosevelt) knocked in 10 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, made four steals and registered one assist on the evening.  Senior center, Sarah Couvillon (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) added six points, tallied 12 rebounds and made two blocks.

On the other side of the ball, former Greene High School player, junior forward Megan McDermott (Greene, N.Y./Greene), led her teammates in points with 19 and in rebounds with 17 including an impressive six offensive boards.

SUNYIT has only two regular season games remaining on their schedule, both of which are NEAC contests.  Saturday February 18th, the Wildcats will look to continue their conference success when they travel to Morrisville to take on the Mustangs. Game time is set for 3:00 pm.  On Sunday the 19th, this season's seniors will be recognized for their commitment and achievements to the program, department and college before they take on Wilson College in the Campus Center gymnasium.  The final regular season game and NEAC contest is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start.
