Wildcats Clamp Down on Tigers for 59-43 Win

UTICA, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Women's Basketball Team (15-3, 9-1 NEAC) went up against the number one defense in the NEAC on Wednesday (in terms of points allowed) in the form of the visiting SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers (11-8, 8-4 NEAC). In the end, however, it would be the Wildcats' defense on display, as SUNYIT held Cobleskill to just 26% shooting for a 59-43 win.

The Wildcats' real defensive feat would come in the first half, when the team built a 32-16 lead by holding Cobleskill to 12% shooting. In fact, were it not for a solid 9 for 10 performance from the free throw line, the Fighting Tigers would've amassed just 7 points in the period.

Cobleskill never got closer than 11 in the second half.

While neither team lit it up offensively (the Wildcats didn't do much better from the field than Cobleskill, shooting 32% on the game), Lyndsey Brognano (Rome, N.Y. / RFA) regained her form with 15 points and 4 assists – both team highs. Brognano had scored more than 12 points only once in her last four games leading up to Wednesday's contest.

For the visiting Fighting Tigers, forward Chelcy Moore tried her best to keep SUNY Cobleskill in it. The senior forward from Albany scored 16 points to go along with 8 boards and 5 blocks, all team highs.

SUNYIT will host NEAC South Division foe Penn State-Berks on Saturday. Game time is set for 3:00 pm.
