ABINGTON, P.A. – Lyndsey Brognano (Rome, N.Y. / RFA) needed 13 points on Sunday to reach 1,000 for her career. She didn't keep her fans waiting, scoring 14 in the first eight minutes, and 18 for the half. The Wildcats would ride her performance to a 77-52 win over Penn State-Abington.

From the opening tip it was apparent Brognano had no intentions of waiting around. Just four seconds into the game senior Kwanisha Jones (Philadelphia, N.Y. / Indian River) found Brognano on the right wing for a swished three-pointer.

After knocking down a foul shot for her 999th point, Brognano added a last bit of suspense by just missing the second. Barely a minute later, though, the 5'5" guard's anxious teammates would get their reward as an 18-footer from her favorite right wing put Brognano over the millennium mark. Coach Jessica Skelton smartly took a timeout, and Brognano was mobbed as she went to the bench.

"I didn't even know," said Brognano. "It felt special, when Coach Skelton told me she used her timeout just for my [1,000th point]…it just felt special."

It was a fitting day all-around, as seldom-used but hard-working reserves Jennifer Bullock (Bronx, N.Y. / NYC Museum) and Maggie Werenczak (Mohawk, N.Y. / Mohawk) got in on the action. Werenczak hit a three with under four minutes remaining in the game, to raucous cheering by her teammates on the bench. The ecstatic Werenczak sprinted back up the court, a giant smile on her face matched only by the teammate whose high-five she awaited, Kwanisha Jones.

The Wildcats return to action on Wednesday at Cazenovia. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
