Lady Wildcats Improve to 2-1 With Weekend Win

UTICA, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Women's Basketball team (2-1, 0-0 NEAC) defeated visiting Albany College of Pharmacy (4-3) on Saturday, 76-59. The victory gives the Wildcats their second win in a row after opening the season with a loss in Ithaca.

A balanced scoring attack proved the key to victory for SUNYIT, as four different players registered in double-figures. Leading the way with 17 points each were Lyndsey Brognano (Rome, N.Y. / Rome Free Academy) and Abbey Hanehan (Stillwater, N.Y. / Stillwater), the latter coming off the bench to knock down 8 of 15 from the field. Brognano, for her part, made all three of her attempts from behind the arc, and continued her remarkable efficiency on the year by going 6 of 8 overall from the field. The junior is currently shooting at a 59% clip both overall and from 3-pt range.

The visiting Panthers were led by Taylor Sullivan and Alexa Schooley with 13 and 11 points respectively, but the team as a whole was stifled by SUNYIT, shooting just 30% from the field. Leading the defensive attack for the Wildcats were Sarah Couvillon (Saratoga Springs, N.Y. / Saratoga Springs), who registered team highs of 7 rebounds and 2 blocks to go along with 13 points, and senior captain Kwanisha Jones (Philadelphia, N.Y. / Indian River), who fleeced the Panthers for 6 steals.

SUNYIT will now prepare for two away games this weekend before Christmas Break: the first at 1:00 pm this Saturday at York College (N.Y.), and the second on Sunday at Old Westbury (2:00 pm).
