SB: Wildcats Win Two on Senior Day!

UTICA, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly softball team won two games overSUNY Delhi on Friday afternoon 9-0 and 7-2. The first game saw Trinity Critelli throw her third no-hitter of the season (5-innings). The Wildcat bats were hot. They recorded 10 hits in the first game and 13 hits in game two to improve to 17-5 this season with an 8-1 record in NAC play. Prior to the start of game two, the Wildcats held their annual Senior Day Celebration, honoring the careers of their two seniors; Gabriella Ellixson and Maddelyn Hoehn.

 


GAME ONE:

SUNY Delhi – 0

SUNY Poly – 9

WP: Trinity Critelli (11-2)

LP: Katelynn Rose (1-13)

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Trinity Critelli pitched a no-hitter for the Wildcats, striking out seven batters and allowing three walks in five innings. Critelli improved to 11-2 with the win.

 

Maddelyn Hoehn led the charge for the Wildcats, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple, two runs scored, and three RBIs. Amy DeSena went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Kimberly Birmingham added two hits, including a triple, and an RBI. Aeron Hamm also contributed an RBI double.

 

For the Broncos, Katelynn Rose (1-13) was charged with the loss after giving up nine runs (four earned) on 10 hits in four innings pitched.

 

The Wildcats got on the board in the bottom of the second inning when Hoehn hit a bases-clearing triple to center field, scoring Gabriella Ellixson, Marissa Landry, and Trinity Critelli. Hoehn scored on a throwing error by the Broncos' shortstop on the same play.

 

The Wildcats added to their lead in the third inning when Hamm doubled to right center, scoring Birmingham. In the fourth inning, DeSena singled to left field, bringing home Ava Faragon and Hoehn. Birmingham then hit a triple down the right field line, scoring DeSena, before crossing home plate herself on a throwing error by the Broncos' second baseman on the same play.

 


GAME TWO:

SUNY Delhi –2

SUNY Poly – 7

WP: Trinity Critelli (12-2)

LP: Katelynn Rose (2-14)

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

SUNY Delhi started the scoring in the first inning when Danielle Seymour crossed the plate on a Lauren Zecca RBI single. In the second inning, SUNY Delhi added another run when Sidney Cooper singled to bring in Roselyn Monks.

 

SUNY Poly responded with a run in the third inning on an Ava Faragon sacrifice fly that brought in Gabriella Ellixson. The Wildcats took the lead in the fourth inning, scoring two runs on a double steal gone awry and a Trinity Critelli RBI single. In the fifth inning, SUNY Poly added three more runs to extend their lead on a two-RBI single by Kimberly Birmingham and an Aeron Hamm triple that drove in a run. The Wildcats added one more insurance run in the sixth on an RBI single by Ava Faragon.

 

Pitcher Trinity Critelli earned the win for SUNY Poly, allowing only two hits and no runs over five innings of relief. Critelli had five strikeouts and a walk.

 

SUNY Delhi's Seymour was tagged with the loss on the mound. She allowed five earned runs on seven hits in four innings.

The Wildcats will wrap up the three-game series with SUNY Delhi tomorrow, Saturday, April 22nd at 11:00 AM. The game will be played at SUNY Poly's Wildcat Softball field and will be streamed live on the SUNY Poly Sports Network (SPSN).
