SB: Wildcats Drop First NAC Game of the Season to Cazenovia on the Road.

 

 

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly softball team lost their first North Atlantic Conference game of the season on Tuesday evening 12-4 to Cazenovia. The Wildcats took an early 3-0 lead, but Cazenovia chipped away at the lead through the first four innings and took control of the game in the fourth and fifth innings. The Wildcats are now 15-5 this season with a 6-1 record in the NAC.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

In the first inning, SUNY Poly took an early 3-0 lead when Kelly Powell hit a bases-loaded single to drive in three runs. Cazenovia responded in the bottom of the inning, with Morgan Marl hitting a sacrifice fly to bring in a run to cut the lead to two.

 

Cazenovia scored a run in the bottom of the second to bring the score to 3-2 on a Kirsten Joslin RBI double. Poly extended their lead to 4-2 on an RBI single by Gabriella Ellixson in the top of the third, but Cazenovia answered with two in the bottom of the frame on a double and an error.

 

The game got away from the Wildcats in the fourth and fifth. Cazenovia scored four in the fourth on a two-RBI single, a sacrifice fly, and a wild pitch. They scored four more in the fifth on an error, a two-run home run, and an RBI single to win the game in five innings.

 

Trinity Critelli had her first rough outing of the year for SUNY Poly, giving up 11 hits and 11 runs in 4.2 innings. It was just her second loss of the season. She still had 10 strikeouts. Morgan Marl pitched for Cazenovia, giving up 8 hits and 4 runs in 5 innings to earn her fourth win of the year.

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will celebrate Senior Day on Friday, April 21st against SUNY Delhi. The games are scheduled for 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM. The senior day celebration will take place between games. The game will be streamed live on the SUNY Poly Sports Network (SPSN) [weather pending].
