SB: Wildcats Wrap Up Spring Break Trip to Myrtle Beach.

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The SUNY Poly softball team lost two games on Thursday afternoon to wrap up their Myrtle Beach trip. The Wildcats lost to Susquehanna 3-1 in the first game and lost 9-0 to Keene State in game two. The Wildcats wrap up their spring break trip with a 5-4 record.

 

GAME1:

Susquehanna – 3

SUNY Poly – 1

WP: Brianna Jones (2-1)

LP: Trinity Critelli (4-1)

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Susquehanna took an early lead in the first inning with two unearned runs, one of which scored on an error. SUNY Poly responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring one run off of a triple by Kimberly Birmingham.

 

In the second inning, Susquehanna's Brianna Jones tripled, bringing in Katelyn Dugery to extend the lead to 3-1. Despite the two teams efforts, there was no scoring to be had in the last five innings of the game as the pitching and defense took over for both sides.

 

Pitcher Brianna Jones was instrumental in Susquehanna's victory, allowing only one run on five hits in a complete game effort. Trinity Critelli pitched a solid game for SUNY Poly, giving up three runs (one earned) on eight hits while striking out eleven batters.

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Kassidy Smith had a hit, an RBI, and scored a run for Susquehanna.
  • Susquehanna's Erin Bean had two hits, including a double, an RBI, and a sacrifice fly
  • Maddelyn Hoehn scored the only run for the Wildcats and had a hit.
  • Kimberly Birmingham had a triple and an RBI for SUNY Poly.

 

GAME 2:

Keene State - 9

SUNY Poly – 0

WP: Lilah Demmy (2-0)

LP: Caitlin Reilly (0-3)

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Owls got off to a strong start, with Molly Murray scoring on a wild pitch and Grace Hallett doubling to left field to bring home Mia Ferry. In the second inning, Murray reached first on a fielding error allowing Amanda Cerretani to score, Mia Ferry added two more runs with a single to right field. Hallett doubled to left center, bringing in two more runs to put Keene St. ahead 7-0.

 

 In the third, Sara Cote singled to left field, bringing home Murray, Kalle Halvorsen, and CC Chadwick to widen the gap to 9-0. Despite SUNY Poly's best efforts, they were unable to get on the scoreboard with no hits in five innings.

 

Caitlin Reilly pitched for 2.1 innings, giving up 10 hits, 9 runs, and 2 walks. Trinity Critelli pitched for 2.2 innings, allowing no hits or runs and striking out 5 batters.

 

The Owl's Lilah Demmy put in a dominant performance, pitching a complete game with no hits allowed and 3 strikeouts.

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will be back in action on Wednesday, March 29th against Utica College. The doubleheader is scheduled for a 3:00 PM first pitch at the Wildcat Softball Field.
